The Global Governance Institute organized on October 24, 2025, a roundtable to discuss the impact of AI on Global Sustainable Development. GGI’s Medlir Mema (Head of Program for AI and Global Governance) was joined by Elena Ardelean (Founder, AI for Development Agency), Caryn Lusinchi (GGI Non-Resident Senior Fellow), and Melanie Rideout (GGI Non-Resident Fellow) to review the achievements of the UN Summit of the Future, to explore how AI can be a force for good by driving sustainable and inclusive growth, and ensuring a just transition in the era of digital transformation, as well as to raise concerns about ways in which AI can exacerbate wealth disparity, contribute to environmental degradation, and hinder progress on sustainable development goals by reinforcing existing unsustainable practices. Speakers at the event, which was attended both in person and online by representatives of various foreign delegations in Brussels, as well as academics, NGO representatives, individuals from the private sector, and students, concluded by warning against premature and rushed adoption of emerging technologies, which could result in exacerbating existing problems and creating new ethical dilemmas.
The Global Governance Institute, in collaboration with leading professionals, international scholars, and researchers from around the world, will organize in February 2025 an intensive training programme on "AI for Global Sustainable Development", which is designed to equip individuals and organisations with the knowledge, skills, and practical insights necessary to tackle the complex challenges and take advantage of the opportunities by the integration of AI in global development.
