The Global Governance Institute is pleased to announce that it joins the European University for Well-Being (EUniWell) as an Associate Member. EUniWell is a European University Alliance funded by the European Commission and comprises seven universities (University of Birmingham, University of Florence, University of Cologne, Leiden University, Linnaeus University, Semmelweis University, and the University of Nantes). The aim of EUniWell is to “to develop an action-oriented response to well-being, grounded in high profile research expertise, educational leadership and civic engagement”.

The Global Governance Institute has been part of the initial application and will contribute to the so-called Research and Education Arena 2 on Individual and Social Well-being. As outlined by EUniWell, this arena focuses on “core interdisciplinary issues related to human rights, citizenship and security, peace, as well as on challenges to well-being in a global setting. Given EUniWell’s focus on interdisciplinary approaches to well-being, the individual and social well-being research arena seeks to advance a comprehensive approach to exploring, analysing, and assessing different perspectives on well-being and how they can contribute to an interdisciplinary research agenda. EUniWell’s Arena 2 approach explores well-being from a “global” perspective, examining its implications and policy options for improving well-being at the local and global levels as well as the intermediate levels of the national, regional, and supranational levels. This arena is linked to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”.

The Global Governance Institute will contribute to the alliance’s Work Packages 2, 3 and 4 and will provide in particular added value through internships in Brussels, policy-oriented education offerings (including “blended learning on the SDGs, Global Governance, Peace and Security and Global Justice”) and policy-scholar dialogues on Global Well-Being from a human rights and global peace perspective. GGI will also contribute to the envisaged EUniWell MA programme on Peace Studies.
